2. Seal the Barrel

To prevent leaks during the aging process:

  • Fill the barrel with hot water (not boiling).

  • Leave the water in the barrel for 48 hours.

  • The water will seal all possible cracks and prevent future leaks.

  • After 48 hours, drain the water and let the barrel dry for 24 hours.

1. Rinse the Barrel
4. Aging

Fill the barrel with distillate:

  • Since the barrel is small, the liquid's exposure to wood is high, making the aging process faster.

  • We recommend aging the distillate for about 3 months.

  • Taste the whiskey every 2-3 weeks. Once the flavor meets your satisfaction, the whiskey is ready.

3. Season the Barrel (Optional)

This step is not required but recommended to enrich the whiskey's flavor:

  • Fill the barrel with your favorite alcoholic beverage (e.g., rum, sherry, liqueur, or another whiskey).

  • This process allows the beverage's flavors to absorb into the wood and blend with your whiskey.

  • Leave the beverage in the barrel for 1-3 weeks.

  • At the end, drain the barrel and rinse it.

6. Bottling

When the whiskey is ready, transfer it to bottles to stop the aging process.
You can label the bottles with your whiskey's filling and bottling dates.

5. Dilution

Once the whiskey reaches your desired flavor:

  • It's recommended to dilute the alcohol percentage. The distillate arrives at about 60% alcohol, while most whiskey worldwide is consumed at around 40%.

  • Add water gradually until you reach the alcohol percentage that tastes best to you.

  • For those interested, you can use a hydrometer to measure alcohol percentage (available for purchase on our site).

7. Barrel Care After Aging

After aging is complete, fill the barrel with another liquid to prevent it from drying out.
If the barrel remains dry for several weeks, it may crack and become unusable.
Proper care ensures you can continue using the barrel in the future!

Rinse the barrel with water to remove any small wood chips that may be inside.
